The project interweaves the histories of two communities on either side of the Mason-Dixon line during the era of the American Civil War. The site contains an electronic archive of various documents, including public (government) records, letters, diaries, newspapers, church records, military records, maps, and images. There is also a bibliography. a narrative of several major events, and a subject-specific linklist. It is divided into two topical sections ("Eve of War" and "War Years") and a section with "Interpretations" (related papers and essays by both historians and students).
